Quake Marks 30 Years with an Exciting Free Episode Release!

The expansion titled Dawn of the Machine was developed by MachineGames in partnership with id Software.

It’s rare for a video game to maintain its significance after a decade, but Quake has surpassed that by far. As it approaches its 30th anniversary, the iconic first-person shooter is celebrating by introducing fresh content. The Dawn of the Machine update, available for free, is now accessible to Quake players on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Steam, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Microsoft PC Store, Xbox Game Pass, and PC Game Pass.

This expansion features a campaign made up of 19 maps, a new soundtrack, and an additional Deathmatch map. Developed by MachineGames, known for their recent success with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and contributions to the revamped Wolfenstein series, the expansion was created in collaboration with the franchise’s original creators at id Software. Celebrating this milestone, the update includes a time loop mechanic and introduces new variations of classic enemies and weapons from Quake. During Quakecon, several key figures from the franchise, including co-founder John Romero, engaged in a livestreamed discussion about this new chapter in the storied series.

Having played a crucial role in shaping the FPS landscape and influencing the boomer shooter genre, the continuing enthusiasm for Quake from both players and developers after 30 years is quite remarkable.
