X’s Product Chief Departs Just a Year After Taking the Helm

Nikita Bier played a pivotal role in significant transformations at the platform.
Nikita Bier, a founder of several startups, announced his departure from X where he served as head of product for just over a year. In a message on X, he expressed his intention to remain as an advisor while humorously suggesting it was time to return to being merely a “poster.”
During his tenure, Bier became a well-known figure within the organization, spearheading various high-profile initiatives. Among these was the implementation of the “about this account” feature, which revealed the countries of origin for accounts, shedding light on numerous popular profiles that had falsely represented themselves as US-based political figures. More recently, he focused on revitalizing X’s monetization strategy for creators, which included measures against engagement baiting and content theft.
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to pass the torch and demote myself to my natural state: a poster. I’ll be stepping back from leading product for 𝕏 and will continue on as an advisor.
Serving the X community has been the privilege of a lifetime. X is, and will remain, the most…— Nikita Bier (@nikitabier) August 5, 2026
Bier did not disclose his future plans beyond his advisory role at X. He mentioned in his post that managing the app required constant dedication, stating, “it’s now time for me to take a breather.” Before joining X, he founded two anonymous messaging applications primarily targeting teenagers, selling the polling app tbh to Facebook in 2017 and the anonymous compliment platform Gas to Discord in 2023; both were later discontinued.
It remains uncertain who will succeed Bier in his role. He acknowledged several colleagues, including Benji Taylor, who was promoted to head of design earlier this year. Taylor expressed his commitment to continue leading the design team while carrying forward Bier’s initiatives.
