Court Rejects xAI’s Bid to Halt Minnesota’s Prohibition on ‘Nudify’ Applications

A Minnesota law prohibiting applications that enable users to create nude versions of images will proceed, despite a legal challenge from xAI, as reported by NBC News.

U.S. District Judge Donovan Frank’s decision emphasized the timing of xAI’s lawsuit over the merit of the law itself. Frank noted that xAI sought a temporary restraining order “on July 29, 2026, nearly three months after the law was enacted and only three days before its implementation on August 1.”

“This delay in filing the motion indicates that there is no immediate harm,” Frank commented.

This ruling does not conclude xAI’s legal battle against the ban; it simply allows the law to be implemented while the case continues. In its argument, xAI claimed that the ban — the first of its nature in the nation — is excessively broad and that there are alternative solutions that could achieve similar goals with fewer restrictions.

Earlier this year, users on X, Elon Musk’s social media platform (which includes xAI as a part of SpaceX), exploited xAI’s Grok chatbot to inundate the site with non-consensual explicit images, prompting investigations and subsequent bans.
