Numerous exciting games are currently available on the Playdate, with many more on the horizon. Developers are continually discovering innovative methods to maximize the potential of this compact yellow device. Recently, a fascinating demo surfaced, revealing some unexpected capabilities of the gaming platform.
Game developer Cristina Ramos shared a video on social media showcasing a developing project that incorporates 3D elements on the Playdate. The gameplay segment begins with platforming through an enclosed environment and transitions to a rooftop setting, featuring parkour-style jumps reminiscent of Mirror’s Edge.
I was told it was impossible to create 3D content on the Playdate, so I decided to prove them wrong.
Then, I was informed that replicating outdoor levels akin to those in Mirror’s Edge was unfeasible, and once again, I demonstrated otherwise.

This serves as an excellent example of why the Playdate has captured our admiration. Working creatively within constraints often inspires the most impressive solutions, and the Playdate certainly presents its share of challenges. With sufficient creativity, Ramos and her fellow developers can achieve remarkable feats. Recently, it was announced that the Playdate is even being utilized to assist in the punctual ringing of Big Ben, which is quite impressive.
