Meta Allegedly Eyeing a Multi-Billion Dollar Partnership with Anthropic for Data Center Expansion

This initiative could open up a brand new venture for the parent company of Facebook and Instagram.

According to a recent report, Meta is currently negotiating with Anthropic to potentially lease several of its data centers. These discussions are reportedly at an early stage, but could culminate in a contract valued at as much as $10 billion over a two-year span.

This news follows previous reports indicating that Meta was exploring opportunities in the cloud services sector. Offering computing resources to other companies represents a significant shift for Meta, which primarily generates revenue through advertising. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has hinted at the possibility of monetizing its data center assets, noting that the company receives such inquiries regularly and views it as a viable option for future growth.

Although Meta and Anthropic are competitors in the artificial intelligence domain, a partnership could yield advantages for both parties. Meta is pouring substantial funding into AI data centers to boost its capability in developing advanced AI models, which has prompted scrutiny given its projected spending of between $125 billion to $145 billion in 2026 alone.

Leasing its data centers to a resource-hungry company like Anthropic could transform some of Meta’s hefty investments into a lucrative new business segment. Anthropic has previously engaged in a similar agreement with SpaceXAI, securing a deal worth $45 billion over three years ahead of the latter’s initial public offering. Following that announcement, Anthropic increased the rate limits for its subscribers.
