Key Points
- Samsung is planning a significant AI upgrade for its Voice Recorder app, focusing on enhanced cloud-based transcription for challenging or lengthy recordings.
- A new storage management feature aims to simplify managing recordings and clearing up space.
- File sharing may become more versatile with the anticipated introduction of MP3 and WAV export options, in addition to the existing M4A format.
Samsung’s Voice Recorder app currently utilizes its Galaxy AI for converting speech to text, but improvements are on the horizon. Recent leaks indicate that a substantial upgrade is underway to enhance transcription accuracy.
The most notable addition is set to be “Cloud Transcription.” Previously, Samsung’s transcription relied predominantly on on-device AI, which offers privacy benefits but can face challenges with complex audio or extended recordings. Reports suggest that users will soon be able to upload recordings to Samsung’s cloud servers for processing, yielding potentially more precise transcripts where accuracy is critical. Local transcription will remain as an option, providing users a choice between speed and accuracy.
A new storage management feature is anticipated to assist users in monitoring recording space usage and managing older files more efficiently.
The app may also introduce the capability to export recordings as MP3 and WAV files, thus providing users with greater flexibility for sharing and transferring to other devices and editing applications. Currently, recordings default to the M4A format.
Visually, an animated waveform may be added to the recordings list, allowing users to view it without launching the entire player. Additionally, Samsung intends to enhance the aesthetic by reorganizing explanatory text for a more streamlined appearance.
While an official release date hasn’t been announced yet, these features are expected to be part of an upcoming update to the Voice Recorder app, alongside One UI 9, which is likely to be released this month together with Samsung’s latest foldable devices, before becoming available to more Galaxy models.
