Google Photos Unveils Innovative AI-Powered ‘Video Remix’ Feature

Google Photos has unveiled an innovative feature called “Video Remix,” designed to swiftly edit and enhance videos, as announced on Wednesday. This new tool utilizes Gemini Omni, a recently launched model from Google that aims to generate various outputs from any input.

This introduction is part of Google’s ongoing efforts to integrate more generative AI functionalities into its consumer applications, strengthening its competitiveness against rivals such as Apple, OpenAI, and Adobe. By incorporating AI-driven video editing within Google Photos, the company simplifies the editing process, allowing users to refine clips with just a few taps, which encourages them to remain within Google’s services.

Users can find the Video Remix tool in the “Create” tab of Google Photos. This feature offers capabilities like adjusting lighting in dark clips, replacing plain backgrounds, and applying artistic styles such as watercolor, sketchbook, and oil painting effects to videos.

For instance, users can modify a video to make it look as though it was filmed in a greenhouse, enhance a clip’s lighting to resemble morning light, or apply a watercolor effect to the footage.

“Creating stunning video clips shouldn’t demand professional expertise or lengthy editing sessions,” Google remarked in a blog update. “With Video Remix in Google Photos, transforming everyday videos into shareable moments takes just a few taps.”

The Video Remix feature is being rolled out starting today for qualifying Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers located in the U.S., Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, and Turkey.

This feature is the latest addition to a series of AI enhancements made to Google Photos. The application recently introduced new touch-up functionalities, enabling users to make subtle adjustments such as removing blemishes, improving skin texture, brightening eyes, and whitening teeth. Additionally, Google revealed an AI-based feature that converts photos of clothing into a digital wardrobe for creating outfit ideas and trying them on virtually.
