The Gemini Spark AI assistant is currently available exclusively to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US.
Google has begun the rollout of its new agentic AI assistant, Gemini Spark, within its Gemini app for macOS. The assistant was first revealed during the I/O developer conference in May, where Google described it as transforming Gemini into an “active partner” capable of completing tasks on your behalf.
For instance, on a Mac, users can instruct it to organize numerous PDFs in the Downloads folder into designated directories. Additionally, it will handle tasks in Workspace apps that utilize files stored on your computer, like generating a spreadsheet using invoices saved on your device. Future updates are expected to allow users to command Spark from their phones to execute tasks like retrieving specific files and emailing them.
However, these functionalities necessitate trust in Gemini regarding your personal data. Google assures users that the assistant will only access files that permission is granted for. If you are comfortable providing more access, you can now connect Spark with Google Tasks and Keep. Moreover, integration with third-party applications such as Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rental is slated for introduction in the coming weeks.
Currently, Gemini Spark for macOS is in beta testing and is exclusively accessible to US users aged 18 and over who subscribe to Google AI Ultra for $100 a month.
