Trump Administration Unveils Anthropic Mythos for Utilization by Over 100 U.S. Companies and Agencies

After two weeks of a ban that led Anthropic to withdraw its advanced cybersecurity models, Mythos 5 and Fable 5, the Trump administration is easing its restrictions.
The administration has now permitted Anthropic to provide access to Mythos 5 to over 100 designated U.S. government agencies and companies. This change includes access for non-American employees within these organizations, which was previously restricted. The revised guidelines also encompass Anthropic’s own non-American staff, who were initially included in the access ban.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick communicated to Anthropic’s chief compute officer Tom Brown that “appropriate safeguards” have been established to allow trusted partners to utilize the Claude Mythos 5 Model, according to a letter obtained by various outlets.
However, the announcement did not mention the availability of Fable 5. This model had been released just prior to the enforcement of the ban and was noted for its enhanced protective features. Both models were removed from the market after security researchers reportedly found ways to bypass essential safeguards. Anthropic has yet to respond to requests for further information.
On Friday, Anthropic publicly recognized the developments via a social media post, stating: “Since June 12, we’ve been collaboratively working with the US government to restore access to Claude Mythos 5 and Fable 5. Today, we were informed that Mythos 5, our most robust cybersecurity model, can be redeployed to a selection of US organizations responsible for critical infrastructure protection. We are moving swiftly to restore access for these entities, and we continue to engage with the government to broaden Mythos 5’s availability and eventually reintroduce Fable 5 for general use.”
