Polymarket Reports User Funds Compromised in Hacker Breach

Polymarket, a leading prediction market platform, has acknowledged that hackers have successfully stolen funds from a number of users due to a breach involving a third-party vendor.
In a statement shared on social media, Polymarket indicated that a compromise at an external partner allowed malicious code to be introduced to its website, affecting certain users. The company has stated that it has managed to “contain” the situation and is currently reaching out to those impacted, assuring that they will be fully reimbursed.
As of Thursday afternoon, specific details regarding the incident remain unclear.
When contacted for further information, a spokesperson for Polymarket, Connor Brandi, confirmed that the breach resulted in the theft of user funds but refrained from elaborating further, avoiding specific inquiries about the incident.
Simultaneously, blockchain analytics firm PeckShield announced a phishing attack targeting Polymarket users, estimating that approximately $3 million in cryptocurrency had been stolen.
Additionally, a blockchain expert echoed these claims, stating that more than 11 individuals had reported losses.
Polymarket allows its users to receive payments in cryptocurrency.
In recent days, two social media users have also stated that their funds on Polymarket have been compromised.
This hacking incident adds to a tumultuous week for the company, which recently faced allegations of misleading promotional practices. An investigation revealed that Polymarket had compensated online creators to share falsified videos portraying fictitious betting successes. In response, the company promised to review its promotional strategies.
