Polymarket Allegedly Compensating Creators for Fabricating Betting Content

An examination was conducted on 1,105 videos, alongside the guidance provided to content creators.
Recent findings from an investigation revealed that Polymarket is paying social media influencers to share misleading videos related to their prediction market platform. An analysis by a prominent newspaper found that out of 1,105 TikTok videos examined, 778 appeared to portray users placing bets. However, upon closer inspection, none of these videos directed viewers to the actual Polymarket website; instead, they utilized fake websites designed to mimic the legitimate platform.
Interestingly, over half of the videos that seemed to showcase winning bets actually reflected losses, according to the report. The investigation included discussions with creators involved in the initiative and examined the promotional materials provided to them to enhance the authenticity and appeal of their content. Additionally, Polymarket reportedly assembled a team of social media users to amplify these videos and boost their chances of going viral.
This year, Polymarket has garnered significant attention as regulatory bodies seek to establish guidelines for prediction markets. Last month, Minnesota became the first state in the U.S. to prohibit these markets. Other states have attempted similar bans, but various lawsuits have complicated these efforts. Meanwhile, Spain placed restrictions on Polymarket and another platform, Kalshi, earlier this year as authorities assess their compliance with national gambling regulations.
