iPhone Air 2 Set to Debut Next Spring Featuring Dual Camera Setup

The ultralight model could become a staple in Apple’s smartphone offerings.

Apple appears to be preparing a sequel to its iPhone Air, the lightweight smartphone released last fall. Reports indicate that plans are underway for a potential launch of a new version of the device in spring 2027. Insider information suggests that this next iteration may feature an additional rear camera, enhanced battery life, and a variant of the A20 Pro processor.

While Apple typically does not disclose sales numbers for specific models, the impression has been that the iPhone Air hasn’t gained significant traction among consumers. The device is largely seen as a precursor to Apple’s anticipated foldable smartphone, leading many industry observers to doubt its longevity.

This speculation indicates that Apple may have greater intentions for the ultralight design, possibly integrating it more permanently into its smartphone collection. In our reviews of the iPhone Air, we noted that the single rear camera was a limitation; thus, addressing some trade-offs necessary for its slim profile may enhance its market appeal.

The suggestion of a spring launch for the iPhone Air 2 aligns with Apple’s recent adjustments to its product release strategy. Historically, all of its smartphone launches occurred in the fall. Recently, however, the company has shifted focus to introduce its more premium models in September, with announcements for budget models like the iPhone 17e occurring in spring. As Apple has also discontinued several compact phone models (like the iPhone mini and SE), this new approach may be their way of offering a smaller device from a different angle.
