Unleash Your Star Power: Create AI-Generated Videos with Google Vids!

Although OpenAI’s Sora has ceased operations, Google believes there remains a demand for a platform that allows users to create AI-driven videos featuring themselves. On Thursday, the tech company introduced new features for Google Vids, empowering users to generate a personalized digital avatar that mirrors their appearance and voice through a selfie and an audio clip they provide.
Furthermore, Google is integrating its advanced multi-modal AI system, Gemini Omni, into Vids, which enables users to produce videos by combining text prompts with reference images. Omni synthesizes these elements to craft the desired AI video. This technology can also modify backgrounds, adjust lighting in smartphone recordings, and apply various effects to enhance the final product.
Additionally, Omni now allows for step-by-step modifications, permitting users to refine their videos incrementally rather than starting anew.
These enhancements elevate Google Vids beyond its initial purpose as a tool for AI-assisted workplace presentations, transforming it into a comprehensive video creation platform. By integrating Vids into Google Workspace, the company is positioning it as a valuable resource for business communications, such as updates and training materials. However, the introduction of personalized avatars and interactive editing capabilities means Vids may now compete more directly with other AI video platforms like HeyGen, Synthesia, D-ID, and others.
Google has indicated that these new AI avatars will be linked to the user’s identity through their Google account and will carry an invisible watermark using SynthID. This measure likely ensures that users will not create unconventional AI videos of notable figures like Google CEO Sundar Pichai, as was allowed with Sora when it was operational.
Access to these personal avatars is restricted to users aged 18 and older in specific regions.
