Pixel Watch 5: Not Competing on Specs, If Latest Leak Holds True

Summary
- The upcoming Pixel Watch 5 has been listed on the Google Play Console, showcasing the same Snapdragon W5 platform as prior models.
- There’s an indication of increased RAM, likely aimed at enhancing new features powered by Gemini technology.
- The image included aligns with earlier leaked designs, providing further insight into Google’s smartwatch set for release in August.
Initial insights into the Pixel Watch 5 have emerged through leaked images that display the smartwatch in a range of four colors. Additionally, speculations suggest a potential increase in pricing. Now, a new leak from the Google Play Console offers more detailed hardware information ahead of its anticipated launch alongside the Pixel 11 series next month.
A recent listing on the Google Play Console reveals significant details regarding the Pixel Watch 5’s specifications, as noted by sources in the tech community.
The listing indicates that the Pixel Watch 5 is powered by Qualcomm’s SW5100 platform, featuring four Cortex-A53 CPU cores at a clock speed of 1.7GHz, along with an Adreno 702 GPU. These specs are notably similar to those of the Pixel Watch 4 and even the Pixel Watch 2, suggesting that Google has opted for the same processor for the fourth time in a row.
This does not automatically imply that there are no alterations. The previous Pixel Watch 4 upgraded to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 platform to incorporate new features like Satellite SOS, even while retaining the same CPU and GPU setup. Since the Play Console listing lacks information on the Pixel Watch 5’s co-processor, it’s feasible that Google has implemented other improvements not detailed here.
The most significant change appears to be in the memory department. The listing indicates that the Pixel Watch 5 will come with 3GB of RAM, an upgrade from the 2GB in previous models. If this proves accurate, it will mark the first increase in RAM since the inception of Google’s smartwatch lineup and may enhance the functionality of more demanding on-device Gemini features. In comparison, Samsung continues to equip the Galaxy Watch 9 with 2GB of RAM, despite upgrading to the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite (SDW6100) processor.
Furthermore, the Google Play Console listing includes an image of the Pixel Watch 5 that corresponds with the previously leaked designs from earlier this month. These designs showcased the watch in four colors: Dark Anthracite, Natural Silver, Pyrite, and Warm Gold, with the latter being exclusive to the smaller 41mm variant. Earlier leaks also indicated that the smartwatch would be available in both 41mm and 45mm sizes and in Wi-Fi and LTE models, but potential buyers may face a $50 price hike across the range.
