Mivo Unveils Innovative App for Mindful Screen Time Management

The phenomenon of doomscrolling on social media has become increasingly prevalent, often leading to a disorienting time sink. In response, a new mindful screen time application called Mivo Scrolling is looking to shift this trend.

Released recently, Mivo may resemble other screen time applications at first glance since it monitors usage and provides insights into daily behaviors. However, Mivo stands out with its approach that avoids shaming users. This aligns with the growing slow tech movement, which advocates for a more mindful re-evaluation of our engagement with technology.

Instead of outright blocking apps, Mivo allows users to create customizable limits for how long they want to engage with particular platforms. For example, users can schedule two designated scrolling sessions each day, allocating one hour to focus on selected apps. When it’s time to step away, a gentle reminder prompts users to reflect on their motives for scrolling: Are they seeking distraction, boredom relief, or genuine relaxation?

Distinctively, while many apps simply urge users to disengage from their devices, Mivo empowers users to consciously choose whether to continue scrolling, fostering greater awareness of their online behaviors.

“Many screen time solutions attempt to limit usage after the bad habit is already in place,” explained Pranshu Raithatha, the developer of Mivo Scrolling. “Mivo introduces a brief reflective moment each time a user accesses a social app, allowing them to critically consider their reasons for opening it before they slip into automatic scrolling.”

Moreover, users can implement regular breaks every two, three, or five minutes, promoting intermittent check-ins that enhance awareness of their scrolling activities. At the end of each session, Mivo prompts users to evaluate whether their time was productively spent or if they simply got lost in the feed, ultimately encouraging a healthier relationship with their devices.

Mivo also features a widget for the home screen, allowing users to monitor their daily scroll time and reminding them of their next scheduled session.

Currently, Mivo Scrolling is available for free on the App Store.
