Quick Overview
- Recent firmware leaks have disclosed the specifications for the now-abandoned ASUS ROG Phone 10 and 10 Pro.
- These devices were set to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a triple-camera system.
- Despite being in development, the series was ultimately discontinued following ASUS’s strategy shift away from smartphones.
This year, ASUS made a significant decision to halt its smartphone operations and redirect its focus toward AI-driven technologies, such as commercial computing and smart eyewear. As a result, the ROG Phone 10 series, which was under development, never made it to market. Recently, however, a leak has revealed details about the speculated hardware of these gaming-focused smartphones.
Leaked firmware files from a prototype, exclusively obtained by a tech outlet, disclose information regarding the cameras, connectivity features, and processors. As expected for a flagship model in 2026, ASUS was evaluating both the ROG Phone 10 and 10 Pro with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip.
The leaked files also indicate the inclusion of LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 storage. However, specifics about RAM and storage capacities planned for the devices were not included. Given the configurations of the previous ROG Phone 9 Pro, which offered options like 16GB/512GB and 24GB/1TB, it’s likely ASUS was considering similar capacities.

Additionally, ASUS had plans to include Wi-Fi 7 compatibility and sub-6 GHz 5G connectivity in both ROG-branded flagship models. In terms of photography, the findings show that the ROG Phone 10 Pro was meant to feature a 50MP main camera (OmniVision OV50Q), a 13MP ultrawide sensor, and a 32MP telephoto camera.
The standard ROG Phone 10 was expected to house a 50MP Sony IMX766 main sensor, accompanied by a 13MP ultrawide camera and a 5MP macro lens, but without a telephoto sensor. Both versions were also likely to be equipped with a 32MP front-facing camera. Though not confirmed, it is presumed that the devices would have launched running Android 16.
The fate of the ROG series isn’t the only consequence of ASUS’s exit from the smartphone arena. The decision also put an end to the highly popular Zenfone series, significantly narrowing choices for consumers seeking compact Android smartphones in a market dominated by larger devices.
