Elastic to Acquire CRV-Backed DeductiveAI in Deal Worth Up to $85 Million

DeductiveAI, a startup specializing in AI-driven software bug detection and resolution, is set to be acquired by enterprise software firm Elastic for a maximum of $85 million, as reported by a source familiar with the situation.

Founded in 2023, Deductive emerged from stealth mode in November of last year, announcing a successful $7.5 million seed funding round led by CRV, with additional contributions from Databricks Ventures, Thomvest Ventures, and PrimeSet. This funding round assigned a valuation of $33 million to the startup, as indicated by PitchBook.

Both companies have refrained from commenting on the acquisition. This article will be updated should a response be provided.

This sale signifies a quick exit for Deductive, which operates in the rapidly evolving field of AI site reliability engineering (AI SRE). The development of AI-based SRE tools has gained prominence due to the increasing volume of AI-generated code. By leveraging AI for debugging, human SREs can redirect their efforts from merely addressing outages to engaging more with product development initiatives.

The acquisition highlights a larger trend of established technology firms seeking to acquire AI-focused startups to integrate innovative technologies into their existing offerings, according to the source.

Elastic, a company that went public in 2018, is famed for its Elasticsearch platform— a powerful search and analytics tool that allows organizations to efficiently manage, search, analyze, and monitor vast amounts of data in almost real-time.

The company’s observability software, which enables engineers to track software systems and identify security threats, stands to gain significantly from Deductive’s technology. The addition of Deductive’s AI capabilities is expected to enhance Elastic’s observability platform, providing clients with tools for automatic performance monitoring and real-time system failure resolution.

Deductive was co-founded by Rakesh Kothari, who previously served as VP of engineering at ThoughtSpot, and Sameer Agarwal, who has experience with the Apache Software Foundation and Meta, where he was among the founding engineers at Databricks.

Although Deductive achieved approximately $1 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR), its growth has not kept pace with that of Resolve AI, a competitor considered an early success in the sector. Resolve AI, founded by former Splunk executive Spiros Xanthos and Mayank Agarwal, secured a valuation of $1.5 billion after raising $40 million in a Series A extension back in April.
