If you are considering purchasing the standard Pixel 11, there are significant camera capabilities that the Pro versions provide which you will not have access to.

The Pixel 10 Pro series introduced a 100x Pro Res Zoom feature using AI for enhanced image quality. Unlike a standard photo edited by AI, this technology generates an enhanced image based on real scenes. However, the basic Pixel 10 did not include this capability.

Now, Google has revealed the 120x Pro Res Zoom, exclusive to the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL. The standard Pixel 11, in contrast, features only a 30x digital zoom. While it’s understandable that the Pixel 11 doesn’t support high zoom levels due to its lower-resolution camera, having even 20x or 30x Pro Zoom would be a useful addition for those who appreciate generative imagery.

Pixel devices are known for their high-resolution cameras, typically 48MP or more, yet Google defaults to capturing lower 12MP photos. However, for those wanting full-resolution imagery, only the Pro versions can fulfill this requirement. Even though there might have been reasons for earlier limitations, it seems outdated now and appears as an intentional choice to push Pro sales.

The absence of manual camera controls on the standard Pixel 11 is another disappointment. While many affordable Android devices provide this feature, Google restricts it to the Pro lineup. It’s difficult to justify this choice, especially since manual options have been available on smartphones for over a decade. Once again, it seems to encourage Pro sales unfairly.

While Google wasn’t the first to provide a night mode, it did contribute significantly to the feature’s development. Users typically need to hold their device steadily for a short duration to take a well-lit low-light photo.

The latest Pixel models feature an Instant Night Sight option, which significantly reduces the time needed for low-light photography compared to earlier iterations. However, neither the basic Pixel 11 nor the Pixel 11 Pro Fold includes this capability, which raises questions, especially since the standard Pixel 11 has the necessary hardware.

Video Boost was introduced with the Pixel 8 Pro and enhances video quality using cloud technology, allowing for 8K recording and Night Sight Video. However, the Pixel 11’s standard version does not benefit from these enhancements. This restriction comes off as frustrating since other brands provide similar capabilities without such limitations.

The new Pro Stable Video feature, which automatically stabilizes video recording in shaky conditions, was also introduced with the Pixel 11 series. This feature bears a resemblance to stabilization modes found in competitor devices. However, Google clarified that like Video Boost, this feature is limited to the Pro series, further emphasizing reliance on cloud processing for functions typically managed on-device by other manufacturers.
