Summary:

  • Leaked AT&T training materials indicate a $5 monthly increase on two home internet plans.
  • The changes will impact Access from AT&T subscribers and those on specific fiber and copper plans set from June 2024 to July 2025.
  • This follows a recent administrative fee hike of $1 for wireless users.

Internal documents obtained by a reliable source reveal that AT&T will implement a $5 increase starting August 16 for the following plans:

  • AT&T Internet customers with fiber and copper services established between June 2024 and July 2025.
  • Subscribers to the Access from AT&T program using the $15/month Copper Plan, which offers speeds up to 50Mbps.

This increase is distinct from a recent $1 increase related to an admin fee for wireless customers.

Notably, the price hike will affect participants in the Access from AT&T program, aimed at delivering affordable internet to low-income families.

As AT&T moves away from copper infrastructure towards fiber, subscribers of the older $15/month Copper Plan will soon pay $20. This added monthly cost could pose significant challenges for individuals relying on the Access from AT&T program.

Customers may have noticed a notification about the upcoming $5 fee increase, which began appearing in the “News You Can Use” section of bills as early as July 16, just a month before the effective date of the hike.

The leaked documents also contain instructions for employees regarding how to handle customers, emphasizing the need to determine whether subscribers to the Copper Plan qualify for AT&T Fiber or Internet Air services.

However, with some of these options being significantly pricier than the future $20 Copper Plan, many longtime users may hesitate to make a switch.
