Fox Finalizes $22 Billion Deal to Acquire Roku

Fox has finalized its monumental $22 billion acquisition of Roku, marking one of the largest media transactions in recent years and significantly enhancing its position in the streaming and connected television market.
Announced on Friday, this acquisition formally integrates Roku, a streaming platform established in 2002, into Fox’s operations. With this merger, Fox claims to have ascended to the status of the third-largest television entity in the United States by viewership.
“Roku was founded more than twenty years ago with the goal of enhancing the TV-watching experience, and that aim remains unchanged. What is evolving is our expanded reach and resources,” stated Anthony Wood, Roku’s founder. “Our teams will continue to innovate and develop as they always have, now supported by the capabilities of Fox.”
For Fox, this acquisition grants immediate access to Roku’s extensive audience of over 100 million households. The company anticipates that this audience will aid in refining its advertising strategies, fortifying its presence in the burgeoning connected TV sector, and lessening its dependence on traditional television distribution channels.
This announcement follows a recent request from the Justice Department for additional information from both companies regarding their deal as part of an antitrust investigation. Reports earlier in the month indicated that regulatory approval in the U.S. was on the horizon for the merger.
Additionally, the acquisition was completed sooner than expected. Initially, when the deal was first unveiled in June, the companies had projected that the finalization would occur in the first half of 2027.
