OpenAI Allegedly Secures Extra $11 Billion, Valued at $1.25 Trillion

OpenAI has successfully secured $11 billion in a funding round that now places the artificial intelligence organization at a valuation of $1.25 trillion.

Sources cited by Bloomberg revealed the details of this funding on Friday. This $11 billion forms part of a larger funding effort that remains open and is projected to conclude in the upcoming weeks, potentially reaching a total of around $20 billion, according to insiders.

Previously, Bloomberg indicated that OpenAI aimed to raise $30 billion in this funding round, meaning the current amount raised falls short of that goal.

TechCrunch has attempted to contact OpenAI for insights and will provide updates should a response be received.

This development arrives soon after Bloomberg reported on prospective investors interested in acquiring shares in OpenAI’s main rival, Anthropic. These investors are reportedly looking at a significantly lower valuation for Anthropic than originally expected, with estimates dropping to about $1.1 trillion, down from the sought-after $2 trillion a month ago.

OpenAI had previously indicated plans to go public this year but later postponed those intentions. There is growing anticipation that an initial public offering (IPO) could occur sometime next year.

The artificial intelligence sector currently finds itself in a tenuous position. Factors such as the Democratic sweeping victory in recent U.S. midterm elections, combined with widespread negative public opinion regarding data centers, have created uncertainty in the market, with many anticipating looming regulatory challenges.
