Summary
- In the first half of 2027, Google will unveil its Quick Share SDK for Android and iOS platforms.
- This will enable developers to integrate peer-to-peer file sharing and Tap to Share features within their applications.
- The new functionality will allow sharing without the need to access the share sheet or open the full-screen Quick Share interface.
Recently, Google hosted its Android Dev Summit, where it shared insights about Android 18 and made an announcement concerning its Quick Share feature. The company will introduce a dedicated SDK aimed at enhancing the convenience of this file-sharing tool.
Quick Share, as indicated by its name, provides a fast and straightforward method for transferring files between devices. Although it currently functions well, there is room for improvement. To this end, Google plans to launch the Quick Share SDK in early 2027 for developers working on both Android and iOS applications. This will enable them to incorporate peer-to-peer sharing and Tap to Share capabilities directly into their apps.
The integration of this feature will enhance user experience by providing a more seamless way to share files directly within applications. This means users will no longer need to navigate through multiple screens to access the share options or the full Quick Share interface.
As illustrated in the examples, initiating Quick Share will present users with a preview of the files being sent in a concise bottom sheet format, making the process both efficient and user-friendly.

Additionally, Google emphasizes five significant features of this upcoming integration: end-to-end encryption, low latency, high transfer speeds, the absence of compression requirements, and support for offline functionality without needing expansive infrastructure.
