Phil Schiller’s Departure from the App Store Linked to Concerns About Future Strategies
Phil Schiller, a long-time Apple executive, is resigning from his position overseeing the App Store.
According to reports, Schiller’s choice to step back—while still remaining with Apple in a new role as an Apple Fellow focusing on various projects—was influenced by his wish to dedicate more time to his family and charitable endeavors.
Additionally, there appears to be another reason behind Schiller’s departure: the new leadership under CEO John Ternus and services head Eddy Cue is aiming to enhance App Store profits and increase recurring revenue streams.
Apple’s management of the App Store and its revenue-sharing practices have faced extensive criticism from developers and have even led to significant legal disputes.
Gurman noted that there was no major conflict regarding Ternus and Cue’s approach. However, Schiller felt that efforts to boost profits might provoke further tensions with both developers and regulatory authorities, prompting his decision to resign and step away from the situation.
