MacBook Air Faces Challenges in the Global Memory Crisis

A worldwide shortage of memory chips is impacting the availability of Apple’s flagship Mac model, as reported by Mark Gurman.
According to Gurman, this shortage—driven by the high demand from AI companies—has already influenced some of Apple’s less popular computers, such as the Mac mini and Mac Studio. Now, the company is facing challenges in keeping the MacBook Air in stock, with retailers indicating that availability is more limited than ever before.
Potential buyers looking to purchase a MacBook Air from Apple’s online store will encounter delayed shipping, with some orders not expected to ship until late August or September for specific configurations.
Gurman noted that Apple is attempting to mitigate the situation by increasing prices and seeking memory from suppliers in China. Additionally, the company has postponed its annual back-to-school promotion that usually starts in June. For the first time, promotional materials are emphasizing the base model of the MacBook Pro while also cautioning that the MacBook Air is “subject to availability.”
