Meta AI Now Available for Direct Messaging on Threads

On Monday, Meta announced the introduction of its Meta AI chatbot in the direct messages of Threads, allowing users to interact with the AI assistant.
Previously, Threads users in certain regions could engage with Meta AI in public discussions, similar to how Grok operates on X. This new feature facilitates private conversations with the AI assistant.
By providing a seamless way for users to communicate with an AI, Meta aims to retain its audience within its platform and reduce reliance on external services like OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini.
Meta AI is already incorporated into DMs on other Meta platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
This new feature allows users to share Threads posts, images, links, and videos directly with Meta AI. Users can ask follow-up questions and explore topics in greater depth.
The rollout of this update will begin globally starting Monday, as announced by the company.
Meta is also continuing to explore the use of Meta AI in public feeds on Threads across a few markets and is gathering user feedback before broader implementation. Those who prefer fewer replies from Meta AI in their feeds can mute @meta.ai, select the “Not interested” option on Meta AI posts, or hide Meta AI replies from their own posts.
By enhancing the integration of Meta AI in Threads, Meta is establishing its platform as a resource for obtaining information and recommendations, all within the app.
