Can Apple Develop Smart Glasses That Prioritize Privacy?

As Apple gears up for the introduction of its inaugural smart glasses, the tech giant is grappling with unresolved privacy issues among consumers, as noted by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg.

According to Gurman, Apple has adjusted its timeline, delaying the launch from early 2027 to a scheduled reveal at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2027, with a planned release by year-end. This shift allows the company to refine both the product and its approach to addressing privacy concerns.

It appears Apple has taken note of the controversy surrounding Meta’s smart glasses, frequently criticized for enabling unauthorized video recordings. This issue could pose a greater challenge for Apple, which has built its reputation on prioritizing user privacy in its marketing strategies.

To counteract these concerns, Apple is expected to highlight privacy-centric features, such as on-device data processing and the lack of facial recognition capabilities. The company is likely to avoid using customer videos for AI training and won’t adopt Meta’s alleged method of employing contractors to review user footage.
