Instagram Introduces Feature to Update Music in Past Posts

On Tuesday, Instagram revealed that users now have the ability to change the music on their existing feed posts and carousels. Previously, the only way to change the music was to delete the post and upload it again.
Thanks to the new “Replace Audio” feature, users can modify the music on a post at any time without losing the likes, comments, shares, or reach it has already garnered. The company, owned by Meta, stated that this enhancement is part of its ongoing commitment to provide creators with greater control over their content.
This update eliminates the trade-off that creators and brands previously faced between maintaining post engagement and updating their audio tracks. Changing a song can help keep content relevant to current trends, or simply allow users to update older posts to fit their evolving musical preferences.
To use this new feature, simply go to the post you wish to edit, tap the two-line menu located at the top-right corner, scroll down to “Edit,” and select the option to change the audio.
Instagram has faced criticism over time for rolling out features that users found unnecessary. Thus, it seems like a wise move for the platform to introduce a practical feature that many could actually find beneficial.
For instance, the company recently discontinued a feature that allowed users to edit images from public accounts using AI, stating that it “missed the mark.” In another instance, the recent launch of a feature called “Instants,” which was meant to capture moments in real time, confused many users, leading them to send images to all their Friends inadvertently, which sparked a wave of online complaints.
