X Unveils Revamped Android App Following Year of Enhancements

Almost a year ago, X, the platform owned by Elon Musk, announced plans to revamp its Android application, which had lagged behind its iOS version. Recently, the revamped app has been released and is now available for users to download.

The newly developed Android app for X has been completely reengineered. The company promises users enhanced performance in aspects such as loading times, scrolling, and notifications.

In development for nearly a year, this update had been prioritized following a significant increase in Android downloads reported by X’s product chief, Nikita Bier, last October. He emphasized assembling an exceptional team focused on enhancing the Android experience.

Describing the recent launch, Bier indicated this was one of the most significant engineering endeavors in the company’s history, highlighting that the new Android application had been constructed from the ground up instead of merely being updated.

“This new version is faster, smoother, and more dependable. Most importantly, it allows us to implement new features rapidly,” Bier shared on the platform. In recent months, the social network has introduced several new features, including X Money and X Chat, which have been developed into standalone applications.

This Android app launch could also attract more users in global markets, particularly in regions where Android dominates the smartphone landscape. The app had faced significant issues last year, affecting its ability to load posts when users clicked on links, which had deterred some from using it.

Despite the enhancements, Bier cautioned that some issues still need addressing, including performance improvements for older Android devices and support for Spaces, X’s live audio feature, which is still being developed. Additionally, other features such as a new video editor, video reactions, cashtags, and custom timelines are also slated to arrive soon for Android users.

Current Android users can access the updated X app by refreshing their existing application through the Google Play Store.
