I Swapped Out My Heater and Ceiling Fan for a Single Dyson Innovation

The Dyson Hot+Cool HF1 is a modern and versatile appliance designed for both winter heating and summer cooling. Priced at $499, this unit features a bladeless design, quiet operation, and smart control capabilities for year-round comfort.

Previously, I relied on a ceiling fan during the summer and a space heater in the winter. After using the HF1 for three months, I found it to be a transformative product that not only replaced two separate devices but also offered added convenience through its smart features. The unit was provided for testing and will be returned to Dyson.

Control of the HF1 can be achieved through the onboard buttons or the included remote, but it can also be operated via a smartphone app, MyDyson. This remote access is particularly useful, allowing me to power the unit on or off from another room, set timers, modify oscillation angles, and establish schedules for automatic operation.

The HF1 operates quietly enough for usage in bedrooms and home offices. In Sleep mode, it emits only 26 decibels and dims its display automatically. As someone who is sensitive to noise while sleeping, I appreciated how I could quickly adjust the fan’s sound levels.

This appliance allows you to adjust the airflow direction by tilting it and features oscillation settings of 15, 40, or 70 degrees for broader coverage.

The HF1 features a smart thermostat that continuously monitors the room’s temperature and adjusts its heating output accordingly. It is important to note that its cooling mode functions similarly to a high-powered fan, circulating air rather than cooling the room temperature.

One of the standout aspects of the HF1 is its bladeless design, which simplifies cleaning. A simple cloth wipe is sufficient to remove dust, eliminating the hassle of cleaning blades or grilles commonly found in traditional fans and heaters.

Additionally, the bladeless design enhances safety for homes with children and pets, as it lacks exposed blades that can pose risks. However, the metal casing at the front can become warm during heating operation.

As a further safety measure, the fan is programmed to power off if it is knocked over.

Weighing just under six pounds and standing at 23 inches tall, the HF1 boasts a compact design that makes it easy to relocate between rooms without taking up excessive space or looking out of place.

While the HF1 comes with a higher price point, it may be a valuable investment for those seeking an all-in-one appliance for both heating and cooling. Its combination of performance, smart features, quiet operation, and easy maintenance makes it a worthy upgrade from traditional space heaters or fans.
