Step Aside, Pixel 10: Motorola Launches New Device with Magnetic Wireless Charging Feature

Key Points:

  • Motorola has launched a new flagship device featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, an exceptionally bright display, and a substantial silicon-carbon battery.
  • The device supports 90W wired charging and distinguishes itself with Qi2.2 magnetic wireless charging.
  • This smartphone is IP68 and IP69 rated for durability, alongside MIL-STD-810H certification.

Motorola has been competing with various major Android manufacturers for quite some time. While it has produced attractive devices, its primary focus has been on high-end mid-range options, with a few luxury models like the Razr series and the recently launched Signature. The new Edge 70 Max aims to fill the void for a high-performance flagship offering.

Recently, Motorola introduced the Motorola Edge 70 Max, a smartphone that promises a genuine flagship experience, surpassing previous Edge models. It features a remarkable Pantone-validated 6.8-inch display that boasts an impressive peak brightness of 7,000 nits, a Quad HD+ resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+ compatibility.

Under the hood, the device is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor. While this chip is not as powerful as its Elite variant, it adequately supports most modern applications and games. The phone comes with options for either 8GB or 12GB of RAM, with a standard storage capacity of 256GB.

A standout feature of the Edge 70 Max is its massive 7,100mAh silicon-carbon battery that supports 90W fast charging and 25W wireless charging through Qi2.2. Additionally, it becomes the second Android smartphone after the Pixel 10 series capable of magnetic charging, reminiscent of Apple’s MagSafe technology.

The camera setup on the Edge 70 Max may seem modest, featuring a 50MP primary camera with a Sony LYT-710 sensor and an 8MP ultrawide camera. Notably, it lacks a telephoto lens, common in similar price ranges. However, it does include a “2-in-1 light sensor,” potentially a flicker detection sensor. On the front, a 32MP selfie camera is available. The rear camera can shoot 4K HDR10+ video at 60fps.

This smartphone also excels in durability, sporting IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance, complemented by MIL-STD-810H certification. Both the front and back are protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, while the chassis is made from aluminum.

The device comes in three Pantone-approved colors: Aqua Gray (green), Dark Shadow (black), and Ice Melt (light blue).

Motorola Edge 70 Max

The availability of the Edge 70 Max is currently limited, having been released in India with no confirmation for other regions as yet. However, recent leaks suggest it may be launched in Europe and the UK. In India, the starting price for the Motorola Edge 70 Max is INR 54,999, approximately $570 for the 8GB+256GB variant. Should it arrive in European or US markets, pricing may increase beyond simple currency conversion.
