Nowadays, nearly every operating system and application offers a dark mode option, which features light text on a dark background. This format is less straining on the eyes compared to traditional black text on a white background, particularly in low-light situations. Enthusiasts have long appreciated this feature, and recent findings from a survey conducted by Android Authority indicate that dark mode is exceedingly favored among respondents.
The survey, active since March, inquired about users’ dark mode habits and preferences. Participants could choose from options like always using dark mode, alternating between light and dark themes, scheduling dark mode for specific times, or never using it. Over 3,000 respondents participated, revealing that more than 70% continuously utilize dark mode.
An impressive 2,280 of the total 3,110 votes were cast for the option indicating that dark mode is perpetually active on their devices, indicating that approximately three-quarters of those who participated are devoted to this interface style. This indicates a strong demand for the new functionality in Android 17, which enforces dark mode in apps lacking native support.
The following most popular choice was to schedule dark mode activation, which garnered just over 15% of the votes. This aligns with the preference of many, as daylight use of lighter interfaces is often more appealing. The option of toggling dark mode manually according to need received less than 6% of responses, while around 5.7% stated they do not use dark mode at all.
