Edgar Cervantes
Quick Overview
- Version 155 of Chrome will introduce revamped notification prompts for Android users.
- The new prompts will be less disruptive and will vanish automatically if not acknowledged.
- A new “Notifications” feature will enhance Chrome’s site controls interface.
Google is diligently enhancing the Chrome experience for Android users. Following recent updates like a fresh navigation bar, the next issue on their agenda aims to significantly improve interaction with notification prompts.
On the Chrome for Developers blog, Google revealed it will be modifying how notification requests appear on Android (via additional sources). Currently, when a website seeks your consent for notifications, the request effectively takes over your screen until you either permit or deny it.

Existing notification prompt interface
With the rollout of Chrome 155, notification requests will appear as small pop-ups at the top of the screen rather than dominating it. This modification is a welcome change for those who are just browsing. Moreover, if a user overlooks the notification, it will automatically disappear after a short time.
Notably, if users wish to enable notifications at a later time, Chrome will include a new subscription option in the site controls interface.
Chrome currently operates on version 150, with these updates set to appear in version 155. The early announcement is aimed at assisting developers, who will need to adjust their website coding to integrate smoothly with the new notification display in Chrome. Google has provided guidance for implementing necessary changes to ensure sites are prepared.
In summary, users will not need to take any action regarding these updates. Once Chrome 155 is launched, the revised notification prompts will be automatically activated.
